Establishment and Growth of the Regional Center for Food & Feed (RCFF)

The Regional Center for Food & Feed (RCFF) has been established in 1980 through a collaboration between the Government of Denmark and the Egyptian Agricultural Organization, which operates under the Ministry of Agriculture. The establishment was formalized by Presidential Decree No. 82 in 1988. In 1985, RCFF was integrated into the Agricultural Research Center. Since its inception, the laboratory has experienced significant growth. Initially started with just five individuals in 1982, it ultimately reached a staff strength of 512 as of 2024.

In parallel with this expansion, there has been a marked increase in the number of samples analyzed by the laboratory. Starting with fewer than 5,000 analysis and reaching approximately 162420 analysis in 2024.

Officially tasked with ensuring quality control across locally produced feeds as well as imported and exported feed ingredients and additives, RCFF also plays a vital role in contributing towards research aimed at advancing food safety and nutritional standards for both human consumption and animal feed.

Since 2002, the Regional Center for Food and Feed (RCFF) has actively participated in proficiency testing with BIPEA in France and FAPAS in the UK. Additionally, RCFF commenced collaboration with Randox in 2006.

In February 2004, RCFF achieved ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA), signifying its technical competence in chemical, microbiological, and molecular testing. The center further updated this accreditation to comply with the revised ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standards starting from 2018. Most recently, RCFF received its twelfth consecutive accreditation from A2LA for technical excellence in chemical testing as of February 2024.

The institution formerly known as the Central Laboratory for Food and Feed (CLFF) was rebranded to the Regional Center for Food and Feed (RCFF) under Ministerial Decree No. 30 of 2007 due to its expanding technical influence within the region.
